Top 5 Playgrounds In Yorkshire Where Parents Can Relax With A Coffee

Playgrounds are one of the top free resources for families – children can enjoy a space to play, socialise and exercise in an environment designed just for them, while parents get the chance to kick back and relax. However, while the kids are having fun, parents could do with a little boost too.

Over the last year, Google searches for ‘café with playground’ have increased by 133%, as more families look for days out that keep both children and parents happy. Fortunately, Yorkshire has no shortage of options. As England's largest county, it boasts everything from scenic country parks and farm attractions to village playgrounds and retail destinations, many of which offer excellent spots to grab a coffee while the children play.

To answer parents’ coffee needs, we spoke to the outdoor playground equipment experts at Playdale, who have pulled together five fab playgrounds in Yorkshire where parents can relax with a coffee.

Cannon Hall Farm (4.7/5 stars, 9,715 reviews)
If you're looking for a playground that offers much more than just swings and slides, Cannon Hall Farm is hard to beat. One of Yorkshire's most popular family attractions, it combines a huge outdoor adventure playground with animal encounters, indoor play and plenty of places for parents to grab a coffee while the children burn off some energy.

The outdoor Adventure Playground has been built on an impressive scale, featuring towering slides, a giant tube maze, climbing structures, rope challenges and a zip line for older children seeking a thrill. There are also dedicated play areas for younger visitors, making it a great option for families with children of different ages.

When it's time for a break, parents are well catered for. The Hungry Llama indoor play area has a large café-style restaurant serving food, snacks and hot drinks, with plenty of seating where adults can relax while keeping an eye on the children. There are also additional cafés across the farm, meaning a good coffee is never far away. Just bear in mind that entry to the playground is included as part of a paid farm admission ticket, rather than being a standalone attraction.

Kilham Playing Fields (4.7/5 stars, 38 reviews)

For families who prefer wide open spaces to busy visitor attractions, Kilham Playing Fields is a fantastic community-run spot in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds. Maintained by the Kilham Playing Field Association, the 10-acre site offers plenty of room for children to run around, play and burn off energy, making it an ideal choice for a relaxed afternoon outdoors.

What sets Kilham apart is its peaceful village setting. Rather than feeling crowded or commercialised, it offers a more laid-back experience where children can enjoy the freedom of a large open recreation space, while parents take in the surroundings. The charity regularly hosts fundraising events to help maintain and improve the facilities, giving the playing field a real sense of community spirit.

While there isn't an on-site café, there are several excellent options nearby for parents in need of a caffeine fix. The Old Star, a traditional village pub just a short walk away, serves drinks and food throughout the week, making it a convenient stop before or after a visit. Those willing to venture a little further can pick up a coffee to go from Cheeky Squirrel Coffee Shop in Driffield or Elsie's Parlour, both just a short drive away.

Mainsgill Farm (4.5/5 stars, 7,204 reviews)

More than just a farm shop, Mainsgill Farm is a popular family destination on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, combining countryside views, shopping, dining and a play area for younger children. Whether you're stopping off during a longer journey or making a dedicated day trip of it, there's plenty to keep the whole family entertained – and crucially, somewhere for parents to enjoy a good coffee while the little ones play.

The outdoor play area gives younger visitors a chance to burn off some energy, providing a welcome break from browsing the farm shop and meeting the farm animals. Combined with the open surroundings and family-friendly atmosphere, it's an easy place to spend a few hours, particularly for families with toddlers and younger children.

When it's time for refreshments, the on-site tearoom is a major draw. Serving breakfast, lunch and homemade cakes alongside a range of hot and cold drinks, it's the perfect spot to relax with a coffee while taking in the countryside views. The wider farm shop also offers plenty to explore, from locally sourced produce and baked goods to gifts and homeware, making Mainsgill Farm an excellent all-round family stop.

Designed with younger children in mind, it features climbing equipment, slides, swings and inclusive play features. Its sheltered design also makes it a useful option when Yorkshire's weather isn't playing ball.

When it comes to refreshments, parents are spoilt for choice. The outlet boasts a wide range of cafés, restaurants and grab-and-go options, including everything from coffee shops and cafés to family favourites such as Pizza Express, Wagamama and Five Guys.
