Eurovision26: Monroe

With five wins under their belt, France is pretty high up on the leaderboard of Eurovision winners. However, their last win was nearly 50 years ago – when, in 1977, Marie Maryam took home the trophy for the iconic L'Oiseau et l'Enfant. Although a string of Top 5 finishes has been their subsequent Eurovision story, they have also often found themselves down the lower end of the league table. Having come twice on three occasions since 1977, could their fortune change with Regarde! in 2026? Performed by the French-American 17-year-old Monroe, the bookies hold it in high regard. We caught up with the upcoming talent to learn a little more.

Hi, first and foremost, how are you?

Great, thank you!

What an exciting 2026 so far... You must be thrilled with how it's playing out. What's been the highlight?

The highlights have been working on the video clip and the postcard. For the clip I loved working with the French Eurovision delegation, the choreographer and videographer, the dancers, the makeup and hair team, the stylist and my label. Everybody was involved working towards the same goal.

In Vienna when we filmed the postcard, I was very impressed by the efficiency of the Austrian crew there, they were so wonderful and welcoming.

We absolutely love Regarde! Tell us a little about the process behind the scenes in creating the song?

The four writers started working on the song before I came in the studio. They are the Violin Phonix (Maxime Morise and Christopher Cohen), the composer Fred Savio and the top-liner Freddie Marche. I entered the studio in January. The song evolved through many versions, and we finally settled on this one after trying a myriad of versions. We wanted the message of universal love to come t clearly through the music and the lyrics.

Did you always intend the song for Eurovision?

Yes, the song was commissioned to be written for Eurovision.

Have you always been a big fan of Eurovision?

Yes. I was sold the first time I saw Cěline Dion performing Ne Partez pas sans moi.

Who is your favourite Eurovision entry of all time?

I have multiple favorites: Céline Dion, Lara Fabian, Marie Myriam.

France has had a very strong history at Eurovision. Do you have a favourite French performance?

Voilà by Barbara Pravi.

If you had to file it between two other songs, what would they be and why...?

Marie Myriam and Celine Dion: two great wins!

Who do you feel is your stiffest competition?

Everyone!

What can we expect from your Vienna performance?

I will have dancers and lots of love.

What is your Eurovision ambition?

My deepest wish is to perform the best I can and connect everyone through this song.

If you could record with one other Eurovision artist, who would you work with?

Lara Fabian

And lastly, aside from Eurovision, what other 2026 plans do you have?

For the moment I’m all in and focused on Eurovision!
