A heartfelt donation has been made to the Sir Robert Ogden Unit in Harrogate, in thanks for the extraordinary care they gave to Sarah Hargreaves during her cancer treatment — the latest chapter in a story of love, gratitude and community spirit that has touched hundreds of people.

Sarah was diagnosed with colon cancer in March 2025, which later spread to her liver. She was initially given just two to eight weeks to live — devastating news for her and her family to take in. But thanks to the outstanding care she received, Sarah defied that prognosis, living for another fourteen months — treasured extra time that her family will always be grateful for.

That time brought unexpected joy along with it. Sarah's mother, Yvonne, was due to turn 70 the following March, and the family counted themselves fortunate to celebrate her birthday together.

Rather than receive gifts for the milestone, Sarah and Yvonne decided instead to give something back. They began planning a summer charity party to mark Yvonne's 70th, with one of Sarah's last wishes being to support the Ogden Unit that had cared for her so well.

Sarah passed away on 11 May 2026, before the party could take place in July. But the celebration went ahead in her honour — and what a tribute it turned out to be. An incredible £11,754 was raised for the Sir Robert Ogden Unit, a total Sarah would have been thrilled by.

The generosity didn't end there. A further £2,000 was collected at Ripon Cathedral and at Sarah's wake, all of which has been donated to St Michael's Hospice — another remarkable place, and where Sarah spent her final four days.

Sarah's husband, Danny, together with their families and Yvonne's family, want to thank everyone who supported the cause so generously and everyone who attended the party, the funeral and the wake. Their kindness has turned grief into something lasting: a gift of comfort and care for others, in Sarah's memory.
