Circus Comes To Minskip As Popular Scarecrow Weekend Returns
The village of Minskip, near Boroughbridge, will hold its annual Scarecrow Competition on the weekend of September 5–6, raising vital funds for St John’s Church.
This year’s theme is The Circus, with scarecrows lining the main street in a colorful display created by local residents. Radio York’s Elly Fiorentini returns to judge the contest, with winners announced in the church garden on Sunday afternoon.
Alongside the scarecrow trail, visitors can enjoy:
Refreshments: Home-baked cakes, tea, and coffee available both days (12–4 PM).
Sunday Specials: Ice cream, Pimm’s, a barbecue, tombola, plant sales, and pre-loved stalls.
Parking: Available in the village field, with donation boxes located around the village.
Main organizer Debbie Hargreaves highlighted the event's role in boosting community spirit and supporting the rural church. Local support and prizes have been donated by regional businesses, including Minskip Garage, Yolk Farm Shop, and Morrisons.
